U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter announced on Tuesday that the government will now protect the Gays and lesbians who are part of the country's military team from discrimination. Transgender servicemen are still however, not allowed.
LA Times stressed out that this is the first time in history that the Pentagon will treat gays and lesbians equally and there will be no discrimination based on an individual sexual preference, the same way they consider others based on race, color, religion, age, gender by birth and ethnicity.
Carter gave out words that will make people believe the government on their support on diversity and equality. He addressed that the Pentagon's openness to diversity is one of the things that made America the best in the world and it's a must that they ensure everyone who is able and willing to serve has the full and equal opportunity to be a part of it. He added that they plan to start from a position that embraces inclusivity, not exclusivity.
The Examiner elaborated some facts supporting it reporting that the restrictions on homosexual employees in the army or any department in the government has been lifted up since 1995 since they found out that being gay won't jeopardize the security of the workplace. Bi-sexual are also accepted and they will have the same protection that gays and lesbians have from the government.
The majority is now considering marriages between people of the same gender and their relationships although the Supreme Court is still ruling on the cases on restricting it. But nevertheless, the public is witnessing some major changes on how the society and even the government treat the gays and lesbians.
Newsmax added that this kind of change will mean that any complaints dealing with discrimination based on a person's sexual preference will go under an investigation done by the Military Equal Opportunity program.
