#HBD: Twitter Will Celebrate User Birthdays Too

"Starting today, you'll be able to show your birthday on your Twitter profile," Twitter wrote on its blog page announcing that the social media site will celebrate the tweeters' birthdays on Monday.

Mashable reported that Twitter will turn their user's profile into a festive page with colorful balloons on their birthday, as it recently added the birth date information displayed on the account profiles.

Users can now input their birthday info by clicking the "Edit Profile" button when logged into Twitter.com. Given the options on what or not to show, users may pick the month, date and year of their birth with specific privacy options.

"Every day, millions of people celebrate the important events in their lives on Twitter - from public events like the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ignited #LoveWins to more personal ones like a friend's birthday," Ricardo Castro, Twitter's product manager wrote on the company blog "HBD: Celebrate Your Birthday On Twitter.

"We're excited to make sharing these personal celebrations even easier - starting today, you'll be able to show your birthday on your Twitter profile."

This new feature will add to Twitter's opportunity to place more ads and other paid marketing links in relation to birthday celebrations, hence the users' freedom whether to display their birthdays or not.

"If you choose to add your birthday to your profile, it will be displayed to the audience that you've chosen. It will also be used to customize your Twitter experience. For example, we will use your birthday to show you more relevant content, including ads," the site explained.

Visibility settings include options to show personal information to the public, the user's followers, the people they follow, those who follow each other, or for the users only.

One of the first people who enjoyed the new colorful feature is Kevin Hart, who celebrated his birthday on July 6.
