European Airlines with the Best Food

Skyscanner has released its second annual study of the best on-board food. Pegasus Airlines, SAS and KLM have been rated as the best European airlines.

Over 550 European travelers and bloggers participated as food critics in Skyscanner’s second annual study of the quality of on-board culinary offerings.

The survey was broken into three categories: Top 5 Low-cost Airline Food, Top 5 Short-haul Airline Food, and Top 5 Long-haul Airline Food.

In the low-cost airline category, Pegasus claimed the number one position, followed by Flybe and Monarch. In the short-haul category, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) was ranked as the number one. Germany’s Lufthansa came in second place, followed by Turkish Airlines, last year’s winner. In the long-haul category, Dutch airline KLM was rated as the best, followed by Aeroflot and SAS.

A Skyscanner survey involving more than 1,500 international travelers showed that 54% of air travelers think the overall quality of airline food is good, and 75% think that food quality has been improving in recent years. The survey also found that airline food is so much improved that 43 percent of respondents admitted to being envious of their neighbor’s choice of meal.

“Airline food used to have a reputation for being bland, but the quality of in-flight meals has improved massively as airlines place greater importance on serving good food at altitude. The majority of airlines have now realized that the quality of the meals does play an important part in airline choice and can sway regular flyers to travel with them,” Skyscanner’s Victoria Bailie commented in a press release.
