Lana Del Rey Explains 'Anti-Feminist' Quote In A Rare Interview With James Franco

In the fall issue of V Magazine, Lana Del Rey sat down with poet-friend James Franco in a rare interview and talked about her new album and the criticisms she faced regarding her "anti-feminist" quote.

Huffington Post reports the 30-year-old sultry singer explained why she thinks her previous statement was misunderstood.

"The luxury we have as a younger generation is being able to figure out where we want to go from here, which is why I've said things like, 'I don't focus on feminism, I focus on the future,'" she said. "It's not to say that there's not more to do in that area. I've gotten to witness through history the evolution of so many movements and now I'm standing at the forefront of new technological movements."

"I'm not undermining other issues," she continued. "But I feel like that's obvious, like I shouldn't even have to bring that up."

Talking about her new album, Honeymoon, Del Rey says "it's the word that sums up the ultimate dream."

"I mean, life is a honeymoon, y'know??" she told Franco. "Life, love, paradise, freedoms ... that's forever."

James Franco has been very vocal about his admiration for his singer-friend. Aside from writing a V Magazine tribute, the actor/writer/filmmaker has also co-written a book entitled Flip Side: Real and Imaginary Conversations With Lana Del Rey.

"Lana has become my friend. She is a musician who is a poet and a video artist," Franco spoke of Del Rey. "I wanted to interview Lana for a book and she said, 'Just write around me; it's better if it's not my own words. It's almost better if you don't get me exactly, but try.'"

The 100-page book Franco co-wrote with New York Times bestsellers list author David Shields is set to be published through Penguin Random House in March 15, 2016.
