Adam Driver Says Kylo Ren Is Not A Villain In 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

Since the first teasers for 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' were released, fans have zeroed in on the mysterious dark figure wearing a strangely familiar mask and wielding a flickering crossguard lightsaber. Almost immediately, the world saw Kylo Ren as the villain in 'Episode VII' who was later confirmed to have fashioned his look after the iconic 'Star Wars' baddie Darth Vader.

However, there is one person who believes that Kylo Ren is not just another villain. Adam Driver, who portrays the Force-sensitive character, has just told Empire that Darth Vader's biggest (perhaps a little crazed) fan is more of a religious fanatic than an actual bad guy.

"When they think of their actions as morally justified, it makes them dangerous and unpredictable," Driver said of religious fanatics. "There's no level they won't go to to accomplish what they're after."

Similarly, Adam Driver sees Kylo Ren as a dedicated (maybe slightly unhinged) devotee to Darth Vader. "I never thought of the character as an evil person," he said.

Adam Driver's statement was announced by Empire in celebration of the release of a new photo of Kylo Ren flanked by two Stormtroopers as what looks like the Jakku marketplace burns in the background.

Kylo Ren has been the subject of several fan theories, since people believe that he is more connected to the original 'Star Wars' story than what the trailers and interviews suggest. Some fans believe that he is actually one of the Skywalker children who decided to join the Dark Side, while there are some who think he is actually Luke Skywalker himself.

Another theory simply suggests that Kylo Ren is just someone who grew up believing that Darth Vader was a war hero who has a destiny that needs to be fulfilled, and that he is the person who can finally bring the Sith Lord his glory.

'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' will finally premiere on December 18.
