Hey Arnold! is coming back to TV! Nickelodeon is in the process of developing a Hey Arnold! TV movie, according to a new report.
Another fan favorite cartoon will make its triumphant return to Nickelodeon as the network continues its appeal to viewers nostalgic for its glory days.
Those ’90s kids just won’t stop rejoicing as Variety brings word that Nickelodeon is taking the next step and actually reviving some of the most beloved shows from the network’s past Nicktoons back on the air.
First to receive this treatment will be Hey Arnold!, which ended on a cliffhanger when football-headed hero Arnold discovered a map that seemed to lead to the whereabouts of his missing parents.
The movie will pick up where the series left off in 2004. The film will also wrap up unanswered plotlines, including the one about Arnold’s parents. His parents were at the center of mystery during the show’s 8-year run.
In the special hour-long 2002 episode “The Journal,” we finally learned more about Arnold’s parents in flashbacks. In the series, October 5 is a tough day for Arnold. It’s the day his parents left him and never came back. In the episode, Arnold finds his dad’s journal, and it takes him down a memory lane of adventure. At the end of the special, Arnold finds a map that his parents took on their final trip to San Lorenzo.
This isn’t the first time Hey Arnold!’s gotten a movie. Arnold and the gang were featured in 2002’s Hey Arnold!: The Movie.
No air date has been set yet for the new TV movie.
In the meantime, Nickelodeon executives have also been teasing the potential return of not only Nicktoons, but also some of the network’s classic live-action series. Beyond that, the network isn’t giving any specifics, but new Nickelodeon senior VP of content development (and The Adventures Of Pete & Pete co-creator) Chris Viscardi says he has been reaching out to other creators of classic Nickelodeon shows to gauge interest.
Nickelodeon currently airs Hey Arnold! as part of its The Splat block on TeenNick, along with several other classic '90s cartoons.
