Diabetes New Possible Solution: Bionic Pancreas

People with Diabetes find it very hard to lead a regular life. They have to be controlling their sugar levels and blood pressure all the time. But sometimes a little help comes to the rescue.

A group formed by both professionals from Boston University and Massachusetts General Hospital have developed what they call a "Bionic pancreas." What is this?

This particular group is looking for a cure for Diabetes Type 1, which is the insulin-dependent kind because there is a constant increase of blood and urine glucose. So, in order to balance it, the insulin is needed.

It also means that the person who has it can do activities but needs to measure the levels all the time, otherwise the situation might change into a drastic mode.

The cure for it is not yet found, but they also give hope by saying "Until this is achieved, we are developing and testing technology to reduce the impact of diabetes on those who live it every day."

And their latest progress is the bionic pancreas. It monitors the glucose with a delivery of insulin to lower the blood glucose and another one of glucagon to raise blood glucose and all of that forms an algorithm. The pancreas then makes a decision by itself to which level to use and inject.

Basically, and in simple terms, it's a sort of little computer system that makes the work for the person and calculates everything, several times a day and every day of the year so that it is one worry less for the diabetic person.

Another positive side is that it comes in the form of an application for the phone. Lately, just like everything else has been going viral and coming in more comfortable forms such as an application for Android or IPhone, these scientists and doctors have also thought in that comfortable and modern side and made it something truly pocket size, as it is not even a separate element but a thing that can be introduced into the regular phone.
