'Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' Gets Flash Release on PS3

Better late than never. Grand Theft Auto fans on Playstation 3 can now revisit one of the series most beloved entries, GTA: San Andreas, after Rockstar Games quietly released it on the PlayStation Network's digital marketplace earlier today.

The game is a full PS3 port that replaces the previously released PS2 classics version of San Andreas that was on the PSN store since 2012. The updated version features some subtle enhancements like 720p resolution and improvement draw distance as well as full PSN trophy support. The game will set users back $14.99 and weighs in at 2.1 GB.

Many are wondering whether this port is the same as the Xbox 360 version that was released in October of last year. Polygon notes that there is one big difference between the two: the Achievement list for the PS3 version no longer has the "Trickster" achievement, which required players to complete 10 of the game's optional "pimping" missions.

Released in October of 2004, San Andreas is considered to be one of the most successful video games of all time, shifting a staggering 27 million copies since its inception.

Set in the fictional state of San Andreas, the game follows Carl "CJ" Johnson a former gang member, who returns home to Los Santos (a city based on Los Angeles) after his mother is killed. Over the course of the adventure, players will work to rebuild CJ's crew and uncover the mystery behind his mother's killer.

As for the future of the franchise, not much is known about Grand Theft Auto's next move. The latest entry in the series GTA V, was an even bigger success than San Andreas, moving over 50 million copies since its release in 2013.

Publisher Take-Two interactive recently said that they will continue the franchise's slower release schedule to avoid it becoming stale.
