National Cheeseburger Day: Special Restaurant Offers

Yesterday was a special day for all Cheeseburger fans out there, it was National Cheeseburger Day! That's right it does exist. This might be a good time to look for that archived cheeseburger tee from your college days. Cheese burger fans across the country yesterday had the opportunity to sample free cheeseburgers and discounted cheeseburgers from restaurants across the United States.

How did such a day come to pass? Well, no one really knows why September 18 is National Cheeseburger day. How about the cheeseburger? Many theories exist as to the origin of the world famous cheeseburger. One theory claims that cheeseburgers were created between 1924 and 1926 by a chef named Lionel Sternberger. Unlike most recipe stories, this one didn't come from a kitchen. The story goes, a homeless man dining at Sternberger's restaurant in Pasadena California requested the chef to add a slice of cheese onto his hamburger order. Sternberger did as requested. He found the additional slice of cheese pleasant and consequently added it to his menu. The rest is history.

Select restaurants, fast food places and burger joints decided, in the spirit of the holiday, to offer their fans a special cheeseburger treat of their choice, free of charge. Millions of cheeseburfer lovers benefitted from the free and discounted cheeseburgers nationwide.
