The Weeknd Faces a Lawsuit for 'The Hills'

The R&B singer The Weeknd is currently facing some legal charges for his popular song, 'The Hills.' It is not just him who has been hit by this news because his record label is also affected.

E! Online published a report containing a certain British music publishing company and its complaint against The Weeknd and his team for taking parts of the song 'The Hills' from composer Tom Raybould, which was released for the film 'The Machine' about 2 years ago.

The charges against him were made this week at the U.S. District Court in LA. This was sited by E! News and the publishing company behind this issue goes by the name of Cutting Edge Music Holding Ltd. The document says that Abel Tesfaye (aka The Weeknd) has violated the copyright rules when he ripped off part of a song called 'Revolution' from an OST entitled, 'Revolution Sequence.'

To further the details of the lawsuit, it also says, "With full knowledge of CEMH's copyright in the Track, and without CEMH's permission, Defendants blatantly copied a unique and significant portion of the Track and included it in a high profile and widely distributed single and album, thereby infringing on the copyrights exclusively licensed by CEMH."

E! Online continued siting the said document when it states, "Specifically, both the Infringing Song and the Track featuring synthesizer bass-lines performed with almost identical idiosyncratic sounds at the same register and using the same pitch sequence, melodic phase structure and rhythmic durations."

It would appear that the prosecutor's camp is stronger this time because there was evidence made dated just earlier this year when one of the producers of the song even reached out to Raybould on Twitter saying he sampled his music and that it might be used for The Weeknd's new album.
