Pomegranates Can Treat Alzheimer's Disease And Have An Anti-Aging Effect

Experts found out that an Asian fruit with a small translucent red seeds is beneficial to human body as it can prevent and treat Alzheimer's disease as well as promotes anti- aging effects.

Pomegranate, a fruit with a size of an orange that has many red seeds was scientifically proven to have an anti- inflammatory, can help prevent cancer and it is high in antioxidants too.

According to an American study that was published in the journal ACS Chemical Neuroscience, eating pomegranates regularly is advantageous to the health. They said that eating this type of fruit on a regular basis is very beneficial as it could provide protection from neurological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease.

The researchers said that pomegranates has an anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective action of compounds called urolithins. They said that this compound "lowered the levels of the ß-amyloid protein which is responsible for the formation of toxic clumps between neurons that is associated with Alzheimer's disease," according to Toronto Metro.

Chemists conducted the research to understand how pomegranate compounds provide protection to the human brain and how they can cross the blood barrier of the brain.

The team identified 21 compounds, most of which were from the pomegranate extract, called polyphenols. The polyphenols actually couldn't cross the barrier but some of their metabolites, the urolithins managed to enter, which is very beneficial for the human body as it can help in preventing certain cancers, including breast, prostate and colon. It can also lower cholesterol level too.

To absorb all the nutrients from the fruit, people should consume it fresh. Some drink the juice by using a straw, they just pierced the skin of the pomegranate and insert a straw. While others just press the juice out from the fruit, just like squeezing an orange. But no matter how you drink, just be sure not to add sugar in it.
