Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Announces 2016 Selections, Inductees Include N.W.A, Steve Miller and Deep Purple, #RockHall2016

It's finally here! The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announces its 2016 selectees on Thursday with an appropriate hashtag #RockHall2016.

The honored artists or groups include Deep Purple, Chicago, Steve Miller, Cheap Trick and N.W.A.

Back in October, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included nominees from different genres and music categories. This year there were 15 artists that made the cut.

Songwriters and musicians include award-winning Janet Jackson, the multiple-time nominated Chic, The Cars, Chicago, Deep Purple, Cheap Trick, Yes, The Spinners, The J.B's, The Smiths, N.W.A, Nine Inch Nails, Steve Miller, Los Lobos, and Chaka Khan.

N.W.A's Straight Outta Compton became the highlight of their three year running nomination streak.

Ice Cube had this to say:

So many people were opinionated about N.W.A. I think everyone now at this point, no matter how you feel about us, understands what the group actually did and what it means to modern music. I think the movie helped to get people to remember that.

Second place goes to Chicago, earning over 37 million votes in the fan ballots.

If you are not yet aware on what makes an artist even eligible to be nominated, or even part of the long list, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame requires artists to have their first debut albums released 25 years ago. That criteria follows the same for their first singles. If an artist can make the long list, then they are eligible for the Hall of Fame. But it takes a whole lot of pondering to get to the short list.

It requires the people's votes where fans can cast their online choices on The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's website. That's right, your vote counted. In the past tense because the polls ended on December 9.

When it's all a done deal, the Hall of Fame annual induction ceremony will take place in Barclay's Center, Brooklyn, New York on April 8, as reported
