Applesauce Recall due to Possible Health Risks

Materne North America Corporation (MNA) has issued a voluntary recall for their applesauce for children. It was found that there was a possible adulteration of the batch with the "Best Before Date" of 04 December 2015-04 March 2017, due to food product residue.

The recalled pouches have a 5-digit production code which starts with "US" then followed by 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, or 08. Many identify this code either on the bottom of the box that the pouches came in or on the back of the pouch itself.

It is important to note that any of their organic-labeled products is not being recalled.

The adulteration was discovered when an inspection was conducted by the Michigan State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). As of writing, there are no reported illnesses yet which stemmed from this issue.

On their Facebook page, Founder and CEO Michel Larroche addressed GoGo Squeez Consumers, saying:

"I deeply regret that I must let you know we are voluntarily recalling specific applesauce pouches that may not meet our quality standards. We found food product residue in two product pumps in one of our factories during an inspection by the Michigan State Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). No illnesses connected to this issue have been reported. While it is possible the food product residue may have been incorporated into the finished product, we test our applesauce extensively, and at this time, we have not seen evidence of this in our pouches. At GoGo squeeze, our team takes food safety matters very seriously, so in an abundance of caution, we are recalling products. We are so sorry that this happened."
