GMO Facts the FDA is not Telling you

The debate on GMOs or Genetically Modified Foods does not seem to end. With new scientific evidence and new facts about the GMOs surfacing every season, the fiery debate packs plenty of fire power. Shocking details have emerged on the prevalence of GMO foods in America and their long term health implications. You will not believe what percent of food is genetically modified and why there are no laws compelling GMO labeling. GMOs are genetically modified organisms. These are simply plants and animals that are created through gene splicing techniques. DNA from different species are merged to create unstable combinations of plant and animal genes, which do not occur traditionally or through natural crossbreeding. GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of insecticides and/or herbicides. Do GMOs offer increased crop yields? Despite the countless promises of biotech industrialists, GMOs do not offer increased yield, enhanced nutrition or drought tolerance. How common are GMOs? In the United States, GMOs are in as much as 80% of conventional foods processed. Are GMOs labeled? Currently there are no laws compelling the labeling of GMO processed foods. This is in site of multiple polls showing Americans want to know whether the food they are eating is genetically modified. The FDA only requires the food labels to be “truthful and not misleading.” Two citizen petitions are being considered by the FDA to compel the labeling. Are GMOs safe? Most of the developed nations in the world do not consider GMOs safe. In fact, European countries in the EU, Japan and Australia have significant laws or outright bans o the production and sale of GMOs. The American government approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them. The required basis for GMO approval is a 90 day feeding study, which on occasions, suggest toxication. This s convenient for Big Biotech, as it ensures the long term health implications are not recorded.
