Blueberries And Night Vision: Fact Or Myth? New Study Reveals The Truth!

For years, it has been said that blueberries and night vision are the closest companions, as many have stated in the past that eating the delicious berry will give you the power of seeing better in the dark - but how much truth is there in this statement?

Researchers of the American Chemical Society set out to find out if an ongoing saying was fact or fiction: whether blueberries and night vision really do go hand in hand. The study with the new findings was published last week at the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, according to Science Daily.

The recently-released research paper on blueberries and night vision, called "Blueberry Effects on Dark Vision and Recovery after Photobleaching: Placebo-Controlled Crossover Studies," had researchers seeing whether people who consumed this popular fruit ended up having better dark vision than those who didn't.

Unfortunately for those who love this sweet fruit, it was found that the blueberries and night vision myth was nothing more than just that, according to Science Magazine.

Although there was no evidence that could prove that this popular food helped with night vision, they did find something interesting: people who had been exposed to bright lights could recover their normal vision after eating blueberries.

However, the researchers noted that the improvement was minimal and not enough to be noticeable in most healthy people.

The scientists behind the study did say that there were some pigment molecules in blueberries, called anthocyanins - which can also be found in other plants - that could potentially improve eye health for those people who already have existing eye disorders. This, however, would have to be proven in specialized studies regarding the effects of blueberries in this particular.

Sadly enough, however, there was no proof that blueberries and night vision have some sort of relation - better luck with carrots, maybe!
