Edmonds Mom Shoots An Intruder – Apparently, The Break-In Was A Mistake

Mom Edmonds Shoot Intruder: It was in the early hours of Thanksgiving that a man tried to break into a family home and ended wounded as the mother shot him.

It all started with a loud pound on the door at 3:15 a.m. on Thursday. The mother went to the front door and opened it at first because she thought she knew the one pounding on it.

After she saw him, though, she realized he was an intruder and tried to close the door on him rapidly. He wouldn't budge and soon, she realized she wouldn't win the battle, so she shot him.

She already went to the door with a gun and the intruder was unarmed. The mom at Edmonds shot the man in the abdomen, NY Daily News reported.

The woman was with her husband, her three children, aged 14, 10 and 5, and a friend of the 14 year-old as well. Once the authorities arrived to the scene, they supported the mom and claimed she did it in self-defense to protect her family.

"There were kids in the house, so she was protecting herself and she was scared and so she was doing what she could to protect her family," Edmonds Police Dept. Det. Sgt. Bob Barker said and King 5 noted.

The police held the intruder in custody and administered emergency first aid on the scene. Then, the medics took the man to the hospital nearby. The intruder was identified as 22 year-old Nelson Petrone.

"I still don't believe it. You don't wake up on Thanksgiving and realize that your brother is in the hospital in intensive care, It's heartbreaking," said Evan, Petrone's brother, according to KOMO News.

He also defended the intruder and claimed that before the family lived in the Edmonds house, Nelson's friends lived there and he wasn't aware about them moving.

He was intoxicated and didn't act in the proper way, but he was trying to get into what he thought was his friends' house. There were no plans to harm anyone.
