The Surprising Truth About Fruit Snack

According to a recent research of Action on Sugar, many brands of fruit snacks contain more sugar than a bag of Haribo snack.

The health campaigners found that more than three quarters of the fruit snacks they examined are unhealthy, appears to be more sugary, and  contain more than four teaspoons of sugar compared to Haribo Starmix.

The research states that the misleading fact of these products are on the labels. Parents think they're buying healthy snacks because it cantains fruits and are not totally aware of the high level of the sugar it has.

Katharine Jenner, campaign director of Action on Sugar, said: "Parents find it hard enough to know what 'healthy' is without food manufacturers confusing matters with misleading claims.

For Jenner, giving young children fresh fruit is much healthier than processed fruit snacks and juice. The unprocessed snacks contain healthy nutrients which are necessary for the tooth development of the children.

The group of campaigners want to make the consumers understand that choosing fresh fruits and vegetables over processed snacks is much more beneficial for their children.

They are calling the attention of the food manufacturers to cut the amount of sugars on said fruit snacks.

Tesco puts their committment right away, and became the first supermarket chain to address the issue by pledging that they will stop adding sugar to their kid's drink and products.

According to Tesco, they have an extensive selection of low-sugar snacks that are clearly labelled to help buyers with their choice.

Including sugar in a diet is totally unnecessary, that's according to Colin Michie, Chairman of the Nutrition Committee at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health

The Department of Health is taking all the necessary actions to help the consumers. They want to stop obesity and reduce the sugar intake of every individual. In fact, over the past few years they already took large number of food and drinks from the market that has high calories content.
