The Taco Emoji Is Finally Here [PHOTO]

The taco emoji finally exists! Emojipedia just confirmed that the people behind the creation of emojis would now be adding a taco emoji along with 36 new ones to Unicode 8.0.

Unicode 8.0 is "the computing industry standard for maintaining consistent text across language and computers around the world," as per Quartz. The new version will be released on Wednesday, June 17.

However, this doesn't mean that the emojis are readily available on Apple's iOS, Google's Android, and other operating systems.

While it's highly possible for the tech giants to adopt the emojis into their platforms, there's still no telling when Android and iOS users will be able to get their hands on the new set.

All the new characters can already be seen on Emojipedia. Some of the most requested characters have also been granted, including a bottle with a popping cork, a burrito, a cheese wedge, a hotdog, popcorn, turkey, and a unicorn face.

The new taco emoji marks a huge triumph for Taco Bell. The Mexican restaurant chain has long been fighting for the creation of a taco character.

PR Newsroom Manager at Taco Bell, Matt Prince, said, "Unicode Consortium's approval of the Taco Emoji brings us one step closer to filling a void in the hearts and keyboard of taco lovers everywhere."

"With this major milestone, we're hopeful the taco emoji will find its way into the mobile operating system updates soon to make our taco dreams a delicious reality," Prince also added.

Last December, Taco Bell created a Change.org petition to persuade the Unicode Consortium to include tacos in its library of characters.

Taco Bell stated in the petition: "Why do pizza and hamburger lovers get an emoji but taco lovers don't? Here's a better question: why do we need four different types of mailboxes? Or 25 different types of clocks? Or a VCR tape and floppy disk emoji? No one even uses those things anymore."

The fast food chain even launched an online store that sells t-shirts to support the cause. The brand ended up garnering over 30,000 signatures.
