‘La Dolce Vita’ Remake: Federico Fellini’s Family Approves Marcello Mastroianni Italian Remake

Over twenty years after he passed away in 1993, Federico Fellini is still considered one of the best film directors of all time, and a few of his films have remained classics for decades, including arguably his most iconic movie, starring Marcello Mastroianni and Anita Eckberg - and now, the "La Dolce Vita" remake is a reality.

Francesca Fellini, Federico's niece, has recently told the press that the family had officially approved the "La Dolce Vita" remake after a number of directors and producing companies had tried different approaches for years, and now finally AMBI Group has secured the rights for an official retelling of the iconic story.

In a recent statement to Variety, Francesca explained that, before this "La Dolce Vita" remake was approved, the family had been approached countless times about "remakes and reimaginings to prequels and sequels," but they've turned them down to avoid tainting the legacy of the film, although it seems like the new project has got the family enthused enough to step forward.

According to The Guardian, Andrea Iervolino, the man behind Rome-based firm AMBI GROUP, will helm the "La Dolce Vita" remake and the producer has explained that the new film will honor Fellini's legacy though telling the story in a modern environment.

"All of the elements that made 'La Dolce Vita' an instant classic will be ingredients in this new film. Our vision is of a contemporary story every bit as commercial, iconic and award-worthy as the original," Iervolino told the press.

Hindustan Times reports that, besides the "La Dolce Vita" remake, there's another Fellini retelling in the works right now, based on his film "The Nights of Cabiria," a Hollywood reimagining of the film called "The Days of Mary," set in Reno, Nevada instead of Rome, with Juliette Lewis playing the lead character, portrayed in the original by Fellini's actress wife Giulietta Masina.

There's still no word on who would be starring in the "La Dolce Vita" remake.
