The Amount of Sugar Placed in a Cup of Tea Reveals the Individual's Socio-Economic Status

Who would have thought that sugar can determine one's socio-economic status? Research revealed that individuals with low socio economic status tend to use more sugar in their teas rather than those who are in the upper class.

As per the Independent website, the way people drink their teas reveal a lot about their persona. Let alone their social and economic status.

The Grocer then made a more detail report in regards to the study. They stated that: "those on a low income are twice as likely to have two or more sugars in tea as those on a high income. Looking more closely at social demographics reveals that more than a third of those in the 'DE' bracket take sugar in their tea, compared with only 26% of 'AB."

The statistics simply revealed British individuals that  belongs to DE [individuals which are classified as semi-skilled to unemployed and the ones with little or no income] are less likely capable of using more sugar than those of the AB [individuals classified as upper and upper middle class, those on managerial, administrative and professionals ].

A chart was shown on The Grocer website revealing the statistics of the said research survey.

Tea is part of British culture, one of their most popular tradition is their British tea time is their afternoon tea. It first started with the 7th Duchess of Bedford. She would usually ask for tea to be served in the afternoon, just in between lunch and dinner. It was however altered by the English as the working class would drink tea in the late afternoon and would refer to it as the main meal of the day.

Tea has numerous health benefits. Though some would grab a cup to get a caffeine fix, some would drink it for its anti-oxidant benefits.
