Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Ordered To Begin Marijuana Legalization Process in Canada

Marijuana legalization is on its way to Canada as the newly Prime Minister Justin Trudeau gave out an official order to Liberal Minister of Justice and Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould to start working on the process that will eventually lead to cannabis legalization in Canada.

As per Cannabis Culture, an official mandate latter that was released, the Prime Minister outlined his 'policy instructions' which includes a paragraph in marijuana legalization.

In particular, I will expect you to work with your colleagues and through established legislative, regulatory, and Cabinet processes to deliver on your top priorities: ...

• Working with the Ministers of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness and Health, create a federal-provincial-territorial process that will lead to the legalization and regulation of marijuana.

The newly elected prime minister was not able to provide the exact details regarding the legalization yet, nor does it have the timeline. He did however inform the press before he was elected that marijuana legalization would be worked on "right away".

Early October Trudeau informed the CBC reporters that it still unclear on whether they would be taxing pot, as it still depends of the rate that they are going.

"We don't yet know exactly what rate we're going to be taxing it, how we're going to control it, or whether it will happen in the first months, within the first year, or whether it's going to take a year or two to kick in,"

Back in September, he also told the press in Quebec that:

"We're going to work with the provinces to make sure that the control and regulation of marijuana is done in a way that is responsible and suitable. ... The sort of control and regulation in many cases will be in conversation with provinces in how they administer and how they control distribution."

He stated that he didn't expect marijuana to be sold in corner stores.
