Most Adult Americans Satisfied With Their Marriages - Find Out Why

Generally, married couples in the U.S. like their own marriages, ranking their marital satisfaction higher than their satisfaction with their jobs, lives and even other family relationships. According to a recent national survey, findings like this probe attitudes about family life - recognizing marriages as something really valuable to the society.

The American Family Survey, conducted by YouGov for the Deseret News and the Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy at Brigham Young University, considers its findings as indicators of something positive - many still believe in the significance of marriage. And that this bond makes stronger family ties and enables them to be more financially wise and healthy.

Thus, they are just more tolerant of those who make different choices. Its results were based on an online survey with a sample of 3,000 adults from the country.

"I think it suggests that marriage is still highly valued by Americans," said Andrew Cherlin, professor of sociology and public policy and director of the Hopkins Population Center at Johns Hopkins University.

The survey found older married people were most satisfied with their marriage, gaining 85 percent of the respondents. It also states that perhaps, these couples have overcome and survived life and marital issues that they have come to the state of being more appreciative and fulfilled.
