Adele's 25 Cigarettes a Day Would Have Killed Off the 'Hello' Singer: Find Out How The Grammy Winner Turned Life Around

The 'Hello' star looks anything but a regular chimney, smoke she did and at a rate of 25 sticks of cigarette per day. This is actually why this artist of the phenomenal '25' album had lost her voice and cancelled her shows in 2011. After her operation - where doctors gave her the dire choice between quitting smoking and quitting singing once they'd fixed up the hemorrhage on her vocal cord - and after her son, Angelo James, with Drop4Drop Charity CEO Simon Konecki was born in 2012 the lovely Adele made a choice.

She reflects: "If I'd carried on smoking, I'd probably have died from a smoking-related illness, and I think that's really bad. If I was dying from lung cancer, I would have potentially given it to myself, and that wouldn't be something I'd be proud of."

What else did Adele give up? Apparently, the Grammy-awardee's talents included being able to drink like a fish: "I used to be able to drink anyone under the table and still be able to put on an all-right show."

Adele's new lease on life and incredible journey to weight loss, are results of a genuine lifestyle change. She and her boyfriend adopted a vegetarian diet from 2011 and have been jogging with their pet dog. And while she's cut down and sugar and become a regular at the gym, she refuses to be pulled into the train of the weight-obsessed.  It really is all about health:  "There's only one of you, so why would you want to look like anyone else? Why would you want to have the same hair style as everyone else and have the same opinions as everybody else?"

Sounds like a good theme for a new album.

In the meantime, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention statement that life expectancy for smokers being 10 years shorter than nonsmokers provides solid support for Adele's choice. Going cold turkey "before the age of 40 reduces the risk of dying from smoking-related disease by about 90%."
