A meat-free octopus alternative has hit the market. Revo Foods' new product The Kraken, is going to change the way we look at cephalopod cuisine.

Release the Kraken!

Move over plant-based burgers; there's a new player in town - and it has tentacles! Revo Foods, an Austrian startup, has unveiled the world's first meat-free octopus product. Their plant-based brand, called The Kraken, claims a realistic texture and vibrant colors that mimic the real thing.

Fungus, Not Fish

This innovative seafood substitute is made with mycoprotein, a fungi-derived ingredient gaining traction for its meaty texture. The Kraken is packed with nutrients and won an A on its Nutri-Score rating. This new launch will be available for a limited time and allow Revo Foods to gather market feedback before potentially scaling up production later this year. If all goes well, maybe there'll be some fungi calamari in our future too.

Looks Like Octopus, Tastes Like...?

Mimicking the real deal goes beyond appearances. Revo has put a lot of effort into replicating the octopus's signature mouthfeel. The Kraken is described as less chewy than a real octopus tentacle and can be prepared in a variety of ways, including grilled, fried, baked, or even enjoyed cold in a salad.

With interest in octopus meat on the rise but ethical concerns growing regarding octo-farming, Revo Foods is just in time to provide a sustainable alternative.
