For everyone who grew up with the show about the different-colored rangers in charge of saving the world from different alien predators, the Power Rangers 2015 revival is all that the now grown-up fans of the show will ever need, showing a much gritty and jaded version of the 90s classic show.
Earlier this month, Ricardo (Ricky) Medina, Jr., a former Red Ranger on the beloved show, made news after it was found that he'd murdered his roommate with a sword in an apparent aim for self-defense - however, fortunately, this isn't the only Power Rangers 2015 news of February.
According to Digital Trends, the Power Rangers 2015 project, entitled "Power/Rangers," came at the hand of Adi Shankar, the man who produced "Dredd" and "Love Survivor," as a part of his new series of bootlegs, where he casts well-known actors in retellings of beloved comic-book or sci-fi products, then making gritty, dark and violent short films, usually of the NSFW variation.
As Variety reports, the Power Rangers 2015 short film, about 14 minutes long, sees "Battlestar Galactica" actress Katee Sackhoff and "Dawson's Creek" former teen heartthrob James Van Der Beek teaming up as two former rangers: Sackhoff plays Pink Ranger Kimberly (originally played by Amy Jo Johnson) and Van Der Beek takes on the role of Red Ranger Rocky (who was played by Steve Cardenas in the 90s series).
In the gritty short, Rocky has captured Kimberly and interrogates her about the whereabouts of Green Ranger Tommy (who was played by Jason David Frank originally), as it seems he's the only surviving Ranger.
The whole Power Rangers 2015 short is a violence feast heavy on bad language and an incredible twist.
However, according to The Wrap, not everybody's happy with the Power Rangers 2015 unauthorized short, as the person who owns the rights to the 90s show, Haim Saban, is "harassing" the short film's director, Joseph Kahn, trying to shut the whole thing down, though it's currently still on YouTube.
