There's a new wave of technology that has been dubbed as "The Internet of Things," which combines everyday situations and gadgets with life online, creating products that meld the world inside computers with the outside one - and the new smart stove knob's a helpful step in the right direction!
Last week, Food World News reported on the existence of a pepper grinder that, with just a movement, turned off all devices (from smartphones and tablets to TV sets) so families could have a quiet dinner; but, as Internet can be addictive, it can also be incredibly helpful, as the smart stove knob proves.
According to Forbes, the new smart stove knob is part of a new startup called Meld, led by Jon Jenkins, a software engineer that has worked with Amazon and Pinterest in the past. The co-founder of the company is Darren Vengroff, who also worked at Amazon.
The idea came as they were walking around their home looking for the "dumbest" thing that people used every day at home, ultimately choosing the kitchen appliance and coming up with the idea of the smart stove knob.
Venture Beat reports that the smart stove knob is designed to move automatically to provide just the necessary amount of heat for exactly as much time as necessary to make the meal.
Interestingly enough, the gadget would be connected to the Meld app, which contains recipes that have been transformed into a format that the stove understands ... and the Meld guys have created a Kickstarter for its launch.
The Meld product has three different parts, according to Mashable: the knob, a clip that can be attached to your cookware and the app. The whole package costs $129 on Kickstarter preorders, and it's set to retail at $149.
"The Meld Knob contains an algorithm that understands the specific power range of the burner and how it influences the temperature of what's in the pot," Jenkins said about the smart stove knob, whose ad campaign can be viewed below. "This algorithm analyzes the heat dynamics of what's going on in the pot or pan hundreds of times and it adjusts the burner accordingly."
