Game of Thrones Teases Big Character Reveal in Finale? [SPOILER]

HBO just unveiled the title for the finale of season five of its smash hit series Game of Thrones and it has already sparked much speculation among the show's rabid fan base. Spoilers regarding the plot follow.

The final episode of season five is entitled 'Mother's Mercy'. While that may seem like a relatively inconsequential title to show watchers, avid readers of George R.R. Martin's best-selling fantasy novels on which the TV series is based off believe that the title is a hint at the possible return of a character believed to have been killed off earlier in the show.

Inquisitive book readers believe that The Mother in question is none other than Catelyn Stark, the former Matriarch of the fan favourite Stark Family who was killed off along with her son Robb during Season 3's shocking penultimate episode 'The Red Wedding.' An episode which aired two years ago.

In the Game of Thrones books, the deceased Catelyn Stark is reborn as Lady Stoneheart, a vengeful undead zombie who seeks revenge on those who wronged her family. Michelle Fairley, the actress who played Catelyn Stark on HBO's adaptation, has previously said that the Stoneheart plotline was cut from the show permanently.

This latest reveal has rekindled fans' hope that Lady Stoneheart will finally make her way onto their television sets. A Vanity Fair report cites certain pieces of evidence that may indeed backup this rumour. The magazine notes that HBO's late reveal of the title is rather late compared to previous seasons. They also bring up a since removed IMDB listing for Fairley, who was credited as playing a 'hooded woman' in the casting list for the finale.

Fans must wait two weeks to see if they guessed right. The season finale of Game of Thrones airs on June 14, 2015.
