Google's Advanced Technology and Project (ATAP) has been developing Project Ara, and is now on its final stage. Some enhancements are being done to get it ready for the first set of users.
Google I/O showcased some of the new technologies that Google's been working on.
Rafa Camargo, a Google's engineer demonstrated Project Ara smartphone during the ATAP keynote at Google I/O, and the demonstration showed the progress of Project Ara.
Project Ara smartphone is a modular smartphone system where the phone's component are separable. Parts of the phones like processor, camera, battery, and more can be traded or exchanged without the need of buying a brand new phone.
During I/O 2014 Google gave updates to some advance details of their plans about Project Ara. Marvell and NVIDIA in cooperation with Big G were all in the busy loop for the reference CPUs built for Ara.
People in Puerto Rico are fortunate because they were chosen to begin the pilot test of the project.
Puerto Rico was chosen by Google for the country's poor landline system and that 77% of the population uses mobile phones as the primary means of communication. Google sees the favorable potential in their market.
Google in cooperation with carriers OpenMobile and Claro will do business when the project kickoff in Puerto Rico.
20 to 30 Ara modules are going to be made available during the launch of the project.
In the latest report of Know Your Mobile , the manufacturer Yezz proposed Project Ara smartphones will be out in the market on August 2015. Yezz recently got involved in developing the Project Ara, and have the intention to be the top module developer.
Yezz stated that: "Yezz will be contributing to Ara's vast accessibility, collaborating to establish a viable module marketplace that will allow for optimum customisation."
The latest report of the project will be further disclosed at the official Pilot launch in Puerto Rico.
