Sixteen people were hurt and four people were seriously injured last Tuesday at the Alton Towers after two carriages collide. The management admitted that the emergency services were not called until 11 minutes after. The accident took place at 13:57 but the crews from the ambulance said that the call was made at 14:08.

Alton Towers claimed their response team were on the site and would have called 999 as soon as the evaluation have been made.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service were notified at 2:41pm after the collision. They were contacted after paramedics arrived at the crash site.

It took 36 minutes before they called the Staffordshire Police, the call was made at 2.45pm. The carriage that was struck was hanging with an estimated 45 degree angle, leaving the occupants trapped at 25ft from the ground, the rescue team from the park facilitated the rescue mission then the fire crews arrived. The rescue mission was completed at 6:35pm.

The delay in communications with the fire department did not affect the treatment provided to the injured, West Midlands Ambulance Service insisted.

It was also reported that by the time the rescue team arrived, the park's own rescue team were already making a platform that was used by the paramedics and fire unit to save the victims.

Alton remained closed from the time of the incident and remained closed until Friday. It was reported that they lose £500,000 a day of non-operations.

Alton Towers Management said, "Our community first responders, based on site at Alton Towers, are trained by West Midlands Ambulance Service and form part of our security and medical teams."

They added, "Once the incident occurred, a member of the ride staff would have called our first responders who arrived at the scene within minutes. After instant assessment they then call our security department who then call 999 straight away."

The Health and Safety Executive has organized an investigation team to determine what went wrong and if the Alton Towers didn't break any law.
