Students, faculty and staff evacuated Louisiana State University (LSU) on Monday following a bomb threat, called in at 10:32 am to 911. The threat did not specify a location on campus. The LSU police state on their website that they are investigating the threat.
LSU posted a message on their website saying, "A bomb threat has been reported on the LSU Campus. Please evacuate as calmy and quickly as possible." The university also sent text messages, emails and used social media to communicate the evacuation.
Classes have been cancelled as state police bomb technicians were on the scene. There are approximately 30,000 students, professors and staff on campus. By afternoon, the campus was nearly deserted with roads leading to the campus blocked.
University spokeswoman Kristine Calongne said, "I've been at LSU since 1990 -- if you count my student years -- and I don't ever recall us having an evacuation of the whole campus."
This threat follows three other bomb threats last week, one at University of Texas Austin, another at North Dakota State University in Fargo, and Hiram College. All three evacuated their campuses after receiving bomb threats from unknown callers, but police found no explosives.
