Father Shoots Son in Connecticut, Mistaken as a Burglar Breaking into Aunt's Home

A Connecticut father shoots his own son, who he had mistakenly believed to be a burglar trying to break into his sister's home. Jeffrey Guiliano received a call Thursday from his sister, saying that someone was trying to break into her home.

It was unknown whether it was a prank gone terribly wrong. Guiliano immediately took a gun out to confront the burglar, and in self-defense, shot the burglar.

Tyler Guiliano, a 15 year old in New Fairfield, Connecticut, was shot at 1 a.m. on Thursday dressed in all black and with a ski mask. He was holding a shiny weapon and was seemingly trying to break into his aunt's home, next door to his own home. Police found him lying in his aunt's driveway with gun shot wounds, while his father sat in the grass.

When a state trooper pulled off the ski mask, it was revealed that it was Guiliano's son Tyler.

Tyler was a student at New Fairfield High School, a member of the Civil Air Patrol and was described as an easy-going teenager who liked to spend time with family.

"It's something out of a Hollywood script," said First Selectman John Hodge, who doesn't recall another killing in his eight years on the job. "You certainly don't expect it to happen in your own small hometown where there's very little crime," according to a report by Newsday.
