The man who played Sulu in the original "Star Trek" series and films from the 1960s has been famously out of the closet for years, and he even married his longtime companion Brad Altman, now George Takei's husband, since 2008; now, as same-sex marriage becomes legal throughout the United States, the famous activist won't be silenced on civil rights.
After having been in a committed relationship with the man who's now George Takei's husband for almost 30 years, Takei's own views on "traditional marriage" are very well put, and he has recently addressed Justice Clarence Thomas, one of the opposing opinions on the Supreme Court ruling, as well as GOP candidate Donald Trump, on what that really means.
In the most recent events, Time Magazine reports that the "Star Trek" actor recounted a recent meeting with the famous billionaire, where Trump told him about a recent gay marriage he had attended and the actor, thinking of George Takei's husband and family life, asked Trump why he was against gay marriage if he even attended weddings.
Speaking to Lawrence O'Donnell on the MSNBC show "The Last Word," the 78 year-old LGBT advocate said he was sure Trump would change his mind about so-called "traditional marriage," particularly considering Trump himself has been married three times in the past, hardly concurring with the notion of tradition.
It's hardly the first time George Takei's husband and the actor make news following the historic ruling; in a recent open letter to Justice Clarence Thomas, Takei takes on Thomas' opposing view in the SCOTUS ruling, when he wrote that government institutions didn't have the power to strip a person of their dignity, in a controversial comment about internment camps.
According to Vox, Takei responded in kind, speaking from his own experience in an internment camp during World War II - plus clarifying that, fifty years ago, Thomas' own marriage to a white woman wouldn't have been legal.
Of course, the very proud George Takei husband posted all the actor's efforts on social media, as they become viral.
