Help Find Kara Alongi: Missing Teen Ran Away, Twitter Hoax Confirmed By Police

"Help Find Kara Alongi" was trending on Twitter last night after a New Jersey teen was reported missing.  Her last tweet read, "There is somone in my hour ecall 911" which spurred thousands of concerned internet users to spread and retweet the message.

A Facebook page titled "Help Find Kara Alongi" was created and quickly racked up over 5000 likes.  Alongi's Twitter increased to over 95,000 Twitter followers.  Thousands of messages of concern and prayers were posted throughout the web.

Cops investigated and searched Alongi's house and Alongi's friends and family had no clue where the teenager had gone.  After a careful search, the Clark, NJ chief police Alan Scherb dispelled rumors of a kidnap.  Instead, the police concluded that the teen had voluntarily runaway.

"We still don't know whether she ran away or if there was any foul play. There are no obvious signs of a break-in and the home was not ransacked. The door was open. Kara, if you see this, please contact your parents or Clark Police. You will not be in trouble. We are concerned for your safety."

Police also revealed that a cab driver confirmed on Monday morning that he had picked up a young lady near Alongi's home around the same time that she had last tweeted (6:12 p.m. EST) on Sunday evening.  The driver's description of the female matched with Alongi and said he had dropped her off at Rahway train station.

Mixed reactions were received once the police reported that the kidnap rumor was a Twitter hoax by the young teenager.

"This Kara Alongi thing is actually making me mad. What possesses u to fake that u were harmed & make millions of people worry? Just go home," tweeted @karaflanders.
@TXCleatChaser wrote, "Guess what? Kara Alongi isn't the only missing child in the world. She's just the only one who posted it on twitter."

"Kara alongi was on the news and the police were at her house now can ppl stfu about it being fake!!!!!" wrote @Amorechelsxo.

@iamkentkubani tweeted, "#helpfindkara @karaalongi's disappearance was a hoax. Way to cause panic & take away attention from someone out there who actually needs it."

Although the truth came out that Alongi was not kidnapped, she still remains missing.  Please contact Clark police if you have any information that may lead to finding Alongi.
