Matt Bomer co-stars with Channing Tatum in the latest version of Magic Mike, the Magic Mike XXL. He shares on Expose that when he saw Channing do his pony dance the first time during the Magic Mike shoot, he knew that their movie would be a great success.
"Channing is an amazing dancer, and he has great charisma on screen," gushes Matt.
The first Magic Mike was in 2012, a story about male strippers, set as a comedy-drama, produced by Warner Bros. It is directed by Steven Soderbergh. The main character was Adam, 19 years old who entered the colorful world of Mike Lane, a male stripper for 6 years. It claims that the movie is loosely based on the life story of Channing, who was a stripper in Florida in his youth.
Channing first appeared in the film Coach Carter in 2005. A year after, he was in Step Up, a film that showcased his dancing. Alison Faulk, the choreographer, created the pony dance for Channing that propelled him to stardom in Magic Mike. The set of the movie was a club appropriately named Xquisite.
The movie was a surprise hit for the producers who had only $ 7 million working budget. It topped the box office, grossing almost $ 114 million in the US, and $ 167 million worldwide.
It was also a surprise for the critics who expected quite a showing of beefcakes. They had an eyeful, and more, citing the smart screenplay and the directing of the movie.
To prepare for their role as studs, Matt packed extra 15 pounds. Matt also confesses he was to have his big break as Superman way back in the early 2000's, with Brett Ratner on the helm, but the movie fell through, and he never got to fly on screen. But this time around, he gets to dance and strip.
