Taylor Swift Experiences Stage Malfunction Moments After Lorde Makes a Surprise Appearance

While singing her hit song, "You Belong With Me," Taylor Swift had a major Marilyn Monroe moment on stage when the bottom of her dress flew up, courtesy of a wind machine on stage, thereby exposing the panties she was wearing underneath to thousands of her adoring fans. "They just told me in my ear that I might be stuck up here forever," she told the crowd during her gig. "This thing is broken." She continued, "I was just thinking about how I was singing a song about rain and it rained today...it"s not that funny...We"re just gonna have to rechoreograph the entire show. It"s fine. Whatever. It"s gonna be a unique show D.C.!"

Minutes before the whole malfunction, guests of all ages were treated to another fabulous and oh-so-fierce surprise guest. But before the A-list star was revealed, Swift gave the packed house a few hints. This performer flew 19 hours from her hometown to attend the show. The song she was about to sing won Song of the Year at the Grammys.

In an interview with The New Yorker, Swift characterized herself primarily as a songwriter: "I write songs, and my voice is just a way to get those lyrics across." Borchetta conceded in 2010 that Swift is "not the best technical singer," but described her as the "best communicator that we've got." Swift's vocal presence is something that concerns her and she has "put a lot of work" into improving it.

It was reported in 2010 that she continues to take vocal lessons. She has said that she only feels nervous performing "if I'm not sure what the audience thinks of me, like at award shows." While promoting 1989, Swift began to use social media to respond directly to her fans and invited 100 fans to appear in the "Shake It Off" music video. Swift has sent holiday gifts to fans by post and in person.
