Smithfield Foods Experiences Rapid Increase in Packaged Meats Sales

Smithfield, one of the leading producers in the nation of pork and poultry has experienced an increase in their sales due to packaged meats. The company experienced double digit growth on their bacon and sausage. They also are seeing an increase in revenue on their dinner sausage, deli meats and ham steaks. Their packaged meat profit increased by 7% along with their core brand volume which increased by 6%.

Smithfield is dedicated to carefully managing the process from the farm through delivery to your neighborhood store. Every step of production is geared towards ensuring the traceability of the livestock to their farm of origin.

Smithfield continually pushes the envelope in the research and development of innovative environmental technologies. Smithfield is the first in its industry to achieve International Organization for Standardizations (ISO) 14001 environmental certification for all of its U.S. production and processing facilities (with the exception of newly acquired facilities). What this means to the customer is the guarantee of the highest environmental standards in the Smithfield production process.

The company believes that sales from their international markets are what helped the rapid rise in sales. Packages meats account for nearly 50% of the brands total revenue every year. The brand plans to place more emphasis on their packaged meats sales because they are currently experiencing a decrease in sales in their pork department.

Many consumers purchase packaged meat because it lasts longer and is quite convenient. They can use it on their sandwiches for lunch, cook it for a quick dinner and enjoy it for breakfast. Packaged meat does not spoil quickly which causes it to be economically friendly. These days many people cannot afford to buy food items only to have them spoil in their refrigerator.

Smithfield may also experiencing a sudden rise in sales because of their recent joint venture with  Kansas City Sausage Company, LLC,and its sister company  Pine Ridge Farms, LLC.. This occurred last month and Smithfield predicted they would experience an up rise in the packaged meat portion of their business. The company seems to know how to increase their sales and what section of their company to focus their ideas upon.
