What's New with the 'Pebble' Time Round? A Lot!

Pebble just released their newest and possibly greatest smartwatch, the Pebble Time Round. In interviews, co-founder and CEO Eric Migicovsky said that aside from it being the world's lightest and thinnest smartwatch, it will also not replace their other models, according to Tech Crunch.

According to him, "We're not going to eliminate the other products - this is part of our product offer." He adds, "There isn't going to be one smartwatch, one wearable, one form factor for everyone. I think choice and options are great. Some products are more stylish. With this product, we try to look at people who don't have a smartwatch on their wrist today."

This comes as welcome news since one of the biggest compromises Pebble had to make with the Pebble Time Round was battery life. With a battery life of one to two days, it is weaker than other Pebbles by a large margin. The company has always been known for their products' long battery lives. For instance, other models have five to seven days of juice in them.

The Pebble Time Round, however, still boasts a much longer battery life than its rivals. The Moto 360 and Apple Watch both need recharging within a day, especially with heavy use. It also features a very different look from many other smartwatches. It is much dressier and its round shape is more reminiscent of classic watches.

Also, the large bezel may be weird for some or, at the very least, a waste of space. The screen has 64 colors and has a retro vibe to it. Its microphone for voice actions is fully compatible with Android devices. The version with a mic that is iOS-compatible will be on its way soon, according The Verge.

The Pebble Time Round also comes in two variants. While the overall size and shape of both are the same, one is made for a male audience and has a 20mm strap. The other one is more for females as it has a 14mm strap, The Guardian reported.

Its software is made to accommodate the small and round size of the screen. It allows text wrapping much more efficiently by refreshing a page at every scroll. This is opposed to line by line scrolling. Pebble is also offering an SDK for developers to adapt watch faces and apps to accommodate the new dimensions.
