'Doctor Who' Update: Could A Female Doctor Be In The Future? Rufus Hound Offers His Thoughts On The Time Lord Being A Woman

It seems like everybody has their own theory about 'Doctor Who,' so it isn't surprising that Rufus Hound would have his own idea on what could happen to the Time Lord in the future. According to Blogtor Who, the comedian who will appear in the latest episode 'The Woman Who Lived' wants his character Sam Swift to play the Doctor's new companion ... but only if the Time Lord is a Lady!

"If the Doctor regenerates in female form then it seems straightforward to me that the companion needs to be a man - at which point Sam is available to fill that gap," Hound said, adding that the new Doctor's intelligence would be a major factor in his casting.

"And if you're going to have a blisteringly smart Doctor then, arguably, you could have an absolute idiot as companion. And I would definitely fit the mould."

Although every incarnation of the Doctor has been male so far, it wouldn't be much of a stretch if the time-travelling alien regenerates as a woman. After all, the Master has just taken a female form and Missy is turning out to be one of the most interesting characters in the show's history. The matrix of the TARDIS has also been placed in a woman named Idris, although that didn't end well for Idris.

A more recent theory points to Maisie Williams' character Ashildr as being the human form of the TARDIS, which is trying to reach out to the Doctor once again.

But why keep the Doctor Who stories to just one 'Game of Thrones' star? There have also been whispers that Peter Capaldi is planning to leave the show soon and that Jenna Coleman's boyfriend Richard Madden is being considered for the role of the Time Lord. The actor is best known for playing Robb Stark until the third season of 'Game of Thrones.'

'The Woman Who Lived' will air on October 24.
