Moët & Chandon Debuts First Self Serve Wine Vending Machines

Moët & Chandon champagne is the latest brand to join the luxury vending machine trend.

According to the Grub Street, a British department store has installed the world's first champagne vending machine, allowing customers to "drink and buy" as they pick up their festive gifts.

"By putting its product in such an ordinary display, the brand is making itself more accessible and appealing to entry-level holiday shoppers," Luxury Daily wrote.

The vending machine sells 350 200-mL bottles of champagne that are each bedazzled with Swarovski crystal decorations. One mini champagne will set Christmas shoppers back $29. The machine does not accept coins.

Unlike normal vending machines where items are dropped from a height, clattering down into a tray below, the Moet dispenser delivers it with a golden robotic arm, but buyers will have to bring their own glasses if they want to enjoy their purchase on the go.

Unfortunately, as Grub Street notes, "200 milliliters are barely a glass-and-a-half by restaurant standards." The vending machine is place at famous London department store Selfridge's.

"Working with Moet & Chandon to unveil the world's first champagne vending machine has been an exciting collaboration for Selfridges," Dawn Davies, wine and spirits buyer at Selfridges, told. "The timing couldn't be more perfect - they make a lovely little stocking filler. This year, Selfridges have taken Christmas to a whole new level, transforming the entire fourth floor into a one-stop destination for gifting."

The Moet and Chandon vending machine is the latest in a line of luxury vending machines to be unveiled. Westfield Shopping Centre in London has a machine that dispenses gold bars while its LA malls are stocked with dispensers selling caviar, truffles and snails.

A vending machine at the Mondrian South Beach hotel in Miami sells luxury items such as Bentley cars.
