Carrie Underwood Responses to Criticism From Julie Andrews Fans 'I Know I'm Not Julie Andrews'

Carrie Underwood is already under attack by Julie Andrews fans for her role in "The Sound of Music".

The "American Idol" winner will reprise the role of Maria, which was made famous by Andrews in the 1965 musical. However the country star said she has already received criticism as she prepares for a live, three-hour television remake of the film.

Fans are claiming that the actress is not fit to play the role of Maria

"I get hate Tweets and stuff like, 'You're not Julie Andrews!'" Underwood told Entertainment Weekly. "I know I'm not Julie Nobody is and I would never pretend that I was ... I know my place."

Andrews has reportedly come to the "Good Girl" singer's defense, even calling herself "a fan" of the singer.

"Fifty years later, it's time somebody had another crack at it," the 78-year-old told Zap2it. "I had the best time of my life doing it, and it did wonderful things for me. I think it's great that it's being done again, but doing it live must be so daunting Carrie. It's a lovely piece, and I do hope it works for Carrie, because she's lovely and I'm a fan. I wish her well."

Music producer Neil Meron told EW, said Underwood is a great Maria and the singer was his first choice for the role.

The singer will be joined by "True Blood's" Stephen Moyer, who will play as Captain Georg Von Trapp and actress Laura Benanti as the Captain's former fiancée Elsa Schrader.

Other stars include "Private Practice" actress Audra McDonald will play Mother Abbess and "Smash" star Christian Borle is Max Detweiler.
