Jelly Bean Introduces First Beer Flavored Treat

This year has seen a number of weird food combinations, first chocolate flavored chicken and now beer-flavored jelly beans.

According to FOX News, jelly beans is feeding into America's obsession with craft beer and has announced their new beer flavored bean called, Draft Beer, which reportedly tastes similar to a "Hefeweizen-inspired ale."

The new product is a way of honoring the company's German heritage.

"The effervescent and crisp flavor is packed in a golden jelly bean with an iridescent finish. Beer connoisseurs will find the flavor profile to be clean with notes of wheat and a touch of sweetness. The aroma is mildly bready," according to a press release.

Draft Beer Jelly Belly will debut at Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco and ISM in Cologne, Germany. The press release reported that the company's research and development team  wanted to get the taste just right before announcing the new flavor to the world.

"This took about three years to perfect," Ambrose Lee, research and development manager for Jelly Belly Candy Company said in the press release. "The recipe includes top secret ingredients, but I can tell you it contains no alcohol."

According to Reuters, patrons worried about consuming too many treats and getting a little tipsy, the press release stated that the beans are alcohol free.

"Usually the factory has a sweet and fruity aroma, but when we're making this flavor it's just like being in an ale house," Jeff Brown, vice president in charge of manufacturing for Jelly Belly Candy Company, said.

The new flavor will be available at candy counters throughout the world in early 2014. Jelly Belly beans contain four calories per bean. They are also fat free, peanut free, dairy free, gluten free, gelatin free, vegetarian and OU Kosher certified.
