The Signature Collection: McDonald's Gives Michelin-Star Treatment to its New Burger Line

A new premium burger is about to arrive at McDonald's outlets in the UK. Dubbed the Signature Collection, this burger will have the fast food giant's thickest patty ever. The patty was also developed together with chefs of Michelin-star restaurants.

These new burgers will be rolled out to 28 stores in London, the south, and Manchester. It will then be made available to 400 restaurants by next summer. Priced at £4.69, the Signature Collection burgers will also be served in brioche-style buns, The Guardian reported.

These burgers might also make its way around the world, particularly in the US. The fast food giant is facing stiff competition in many markets with the growing popularity of gourmet burger joints. In the US, Five Guys and Shake Shack come to mind.

Duncan Cruttenden, McDonald's food development director, said that these burgers are the product of customer feedback and the company's chef council, some of whom worked in Michelin-star restaurants in the past.

He said, "At McDonald's we are committed to listening to our customers and evolving our menu to offer something for everyone.

"When the chef council started to develop this new premium offering, we worked with a brief generated by our customers - they told us they wanted thicker beef patties and high quality ingredients, freshly prepared.

"We've crafted a range that is a truly exciting permanent addition to our menu - every product has to earn a place and our customers have told us the signature collection has done just that."

McDonald's is also taking full advantage of the new table service in its UK restaurants to better serve the Signature Collection. The thicker patties require longer cooking time and would be enjoyed best if served. This "slow lane" marks a momentous occasion for the fast food chain renowned for its rapid service.
