It's no secret that Simon Pegg is a huge fan of the 'Star Wars' franchise. The 'Man Up' actor has actively spoken about his love for the original films, so much so that even the characters he plays in his movies have made several 'Star Wars' references.
So imagine the delight of a true-blue 'Star Wars' fan when he is asked to be a consultant on the set of 'The Force Awakens,' helping director J.J. Abrams work out the best way to present the film. Simon Pegg recently spoke about the experience with New York Daily News.
"To knock out ideas with J.J., and every single day, whether you were on the set of something you recognized or a set that was brand new, it just felt like 'Star Wars' in a way that I hadn't felt in 32 years," Pegg said. "It was genuinely magical."
What's the significance of the 32 years he mentioned? The 'Star Trek' actor was referring to the theatrical release of 'Return of the Jedi,' which was in 1983.
Although Simon Pegg appears to be a die-hard 'Star Wars' fan, he still feels differently about the prequels released in the recent years. According to the 'Shaun of the Dead' star, he doesn't think highly of people who enjoyed 'The Phantom Menace,' 'Attack of the Clones' and 'Revenge of the Sith.'
"I don't really have any respect for anyone who thinks those films are good. They're not," Pegg said, explaining why the 'Star Wars' prequels were so terrible.
"(They're) a monumental misunderstanding of what the (original) three films are about. It's an exercise in utter infanticide ... (like) George Lucas killing his kid," he said.
Simon Pegg has famously slammed the 'Star Wars' prequels in several occasions, most notably in the TV series 'Spaced.' In the show, Pegg's character had refused to sell a Jar Jar Binks toy because he didn't like 'The Phantom Menace.'
'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' will premiere on December 18.
