Proven Benefits of Green Tea: Study Shows It Helps Boost Metabolism

Losing weight is probably one thing that all women want the most. The road to achieving the perfect body isn't easy. It is a grueling and long process. But as they say nothing worth having comes easy. Wouldn't it be nice to burn all the stored fat by simply drinking something that tastes good?

An article written on NPR said that a number of companies are hoping to make a difference and create food and drinks that can boost metabolism. Among them is the famous green tea, it is said that it has a substance to aid for weight loss and weight maintenance.

Dr. Oz himself suggested that with just one cup of his Tangerine Weight-Orade which has green tea, will boost metabolism for up to 12 percent. In Women's Health Magazine, they described green tea's magic to be present even in ice-cream. Many green tea drinks and pills that are on sale claim that it can really help you burn more fat.

In East Asia, there is a long tradition of drinking green tea for their good health. However, when scientist tried to run a test to check the belief that green tea will keep off the unwanted fats, unfortunately they came up short.

Rick Hursel from Maastricht University Medical Centre in Holland published a study that indeed green tea slightly increase metabolism. He said that in the study it shows that green tea is able to increase your energy to do many things, so it means that you also burn calories as well as increase in the amount of fat being burned. But the question remains to be if one person consumes green tea can actually lead to permanent and lasting changes in their metabolism or to weight loss?

The weight loss effect in Hursel's study was small - and perhaps only fleeting. And another study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2009 found that green tea extract had no effect on the resting metabolic rate of 12 normal weight men.
