Over the past years, many hearts have been broken as a number of talk show hosts have stepped down from their schedules, from David Letterman and Craig Ferguson stepping down from their CBS chairs to even Jon Stewart from Comedy Central and Chelsea Handler from E! - and she's being followed by Joel McHale's "The Soup."
While Joel McHale's "The Soup" wasn't exactly a talk show - more like a parody one -, that doesn't mean he won't be missed from television, particularly now that he'll be absent from TV altogether, as his cult comedy show, "Community," also ended this year.
According to USA Today, E! has just officially canceled Joel McHale's "The Soup," the show that made him famous, after 12 years, while the program itself has a longer history of hosts, including Academy Award nominee Greg Kinnear (who first became famous for it), Hal Sparks, John Henderson and Aisha Tyler, though McHale has by far been the longest-standing and most beloved host.
"We are incredibly proud of the long-running success of 'The Soup,'" said the channel's executive VP of programming and development on the departure of Joel McHale's "The Soup" in a statement via L.A. Times. "'The Soup' has delivered countless laughs and unforgettable episodes, and we are grateful to the talented team's fearless wit and clever approach week after week. Joel took the show to new heights for more than a decade, and his irreverent humor and unique brand of comedy as captured so perfectly on 'The Soup' will be missed."
As Entertainment Weekly reports, Joel McHale's "The Soup" will air for one final month (the finale is on November 18, the same day as the "Star Wars" premiere), and while it's unclear if there will be any special guests, there have been a lot of big names participating in sketches over the past few years, including "Two and a Half Men" star Jon Cryer, Sofia Vergara's soon-to-be-husband Joe Manganiello, pop stars Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato, rappers Sean Combs and Eminem and even Joan Rivers.
Still, there's life for the star after Joel McHale's "The Soup," as he's set to appear on an arch in the upcoming reboot of the "X-Files."
