Prepare for the Holiday Scare: Learn About the Christmas Legend, Krampus on its New Movie Featurette! [VIDEO]

Prepare for this year's most frightening holiday treat from Universal Pictures and Legendary Pictures- black comedy horror movie, 'Krampus' directed by Michael Dougherty. The film is based from a legendary creature called the Krampus, as told in the famous Alpine folklore. While slated to be out in theatres December 4, a new behind-the-scenes featurette was released to give us a peek into the world of the frightening Krampus and its dark legend.

The movie follows young Max (Emjay Anthony) who had a bad Christmas with his dysfunctional family, ends up accidentally summoning the Christmas demonic creature, Krampus to his home. Krampus is an ancient evil from the Alpine folklore who punishes children and non-believers.

The supposed festive celebration suddenly turns out to be a bloody one- as the evil Krampus is on the loose to unleash his wrath. The ultimate question is: will Max's family survive the Krampus and regain the joyous Christmas spirit?

Followers of Doughterty's taste for holiday terror from his horror anthology in 2007 entitled, Trick 'r Treat starring Anna Paquin and Brian Cox might find his latest feature a must-watch this season. The Krampus movie ensemble includes Adam Scott, Toni Collette, David Koechner, Allison Tolman, Conchata Ferrell, Stefania Lavie Owen and Krista Stadler.

The film was initially set to be released on November 25, but was pushed back for a December 4, release, to avoid commercial clash with The Night Before and other high profile films. It is said that the film will feature a similar directorial style to Trick 'r Treat, but with a Christmas theme.

According to ComingSoon.net, Krampus and his army of mischief were created by the combined efforts of Weta Workshop and Weta Digital. Both CGI monsters were known for their work in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy.
