Mark Zuckerberg together with his wife Priscilla Chan have pledged that they will be donating 99 percent of their net worth for charity purposes.
The Facebook co-founder has released a statement last December 1 which states that he and his wife will give away majority of their Facebook shares to charity. The said announcement was inserted in the letter specifically addressed for his first baby girl named Max.
This means that the Zuckerbergs are about to give $45 billion of their total shares to a number of charity programs. According to the family, the shares will be used for different charitable deeds especially for the purpose of solving the most common problems in the world today such as diseases, poverty and clean energy.
The commitment of the 31-year-old billionaire was elaborated by Facebook as they are filing to the SEC.
"Mark Zuckerberg announced that, during his lifetime, he will gift or otherwise direct substantially all of his shares of Facebook stock, or the net after-tax proceeds from sales of such shares, to further the mission of advancing human potential and promoting equality by means of philanthropic, public advocacy, and other activities for the public good," Facebook stated.
Despite the pledge, Zuckerberg confirmed that he is still going to be the CEO of Facebook for a long period of time. The tech company also stated that Zuckerberg is expected to be the controlling stockholder of the social media site in the future.
It was reported that their daughter, Max Chan Zuckerberg was born last week. Even though Facebook did not officially announced the birth date of Max, it was revealed that the baby was normal and healthy weighing about 7lbs and 8 ounces at birth.
Last month, Zuckerberg already announced that he will take two months of paternity leave right after the birth of his daughter.
