Newly Engaged Couple Sophie Hunter and Benedict Cumberbatch Made a Red Carpet Appearance

The newly engaged couple, Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter had finally made their first public appearance after their engagement at "The Imitation Game" New York City premiere.

The premiere night was the first public appearance of the couple after they announced their engagement. Cumberbatch, 38 and Hunter, 36 had announced their engagement by posting it on Times.

The engagement broke hearts of Cumberbatch's adoring fans but they cannot stay mad to the actor especially with his sweet statement about how he felt when he broke many hearts when he proposed to his girlfriend, Hunter. He told to the reporters during the premiere of "The Imitation Game" that it was fine in the sense that he made the one person's heart and the most important person happy.

Although Cumberbatch was busy during the premiere and the after party held at the Tavern on The Green, Cumberbatch still managed to find time to show his affection towards Hunter.

When talking about their upcoming wedding, Cumberbatch told PEOPLE that he wants to be involved in the wedding preparation and also said that he already had a vision for the wedding but he did not reveal what on his mind.

The couple was known for keeping their relationship out of the limelight and they only confirmed their relationship earlier this year, after they were seen and pictured together at the French Open.

Hunter was a known director and won a Samuel Beckett award for the 2007 play "The Terrific Electric" which she wrote and directed. She also directed Britten's opera "The Rape of Lucretia", Ibsen's "Ghost" and Mozart's "The Magic Flute".

Cumberbatch is the lead role in the TV series, "Sherlock" which gave him the fame and also made several films including "The Imitation Game" the Alan Turing biopic which was released last Nov. 14.
