HBO's Bill Simmons Taps NFL Network's Eric Weinberger as President of Bill Simmons Media

The post-ESPN plans of Bill Simmons are becoming a little clearer.

After a highly publicized divorce from the Sports media giant earlier this year, Simmons - an acclaimed author, columnist, and TV personality, moved to HBO and will be debuting a new talk show at the network sometime in 2016.

Now a new report from Deadline has revealed the second part of Simmons' new endeavor, the Bill Simmons Media Group. According to the article, Simmons has enlisted NFL Network executive producer Eric Weinberger to be the President of the company.

Weinberger will be responsible for all of Simmons projects under the new banner, including the recently released podcast network and upcoming content website. He will also serve as an executive producer for Simmons' new HBO program.

"I can't wait to start working with Eric. He's a talented guy with an impeccable reputation, someone who is uniquely equipped to help me build an innovative multimedia company from scratch." Said Simmons in a statement. "We're both beyond excited to start brainstorming about my show and other HBO Sports projects as well. I know from experience that you're only as good as the people around you, and Eric is one of the very best."

The entire scope of the Media Group's projects remain unclear, but it's easy to assume that they will be patterned after Simmons' work with ESPN.

He made a name for himself on the network as a writer and columnist, but in recent years lent his expertise to other fields.

He was one of the key figures in the creation of ESPN's critically acclaimed 30 for 30 series of documentaries, and also served as a host on NBA Countdown for two seasons.

His biggest endeavor at the company was Grantland, a sports and pop culture website which he created and served as editor-in-chief. The website was recently shuttered following Simmons' departure.
