Bitter Facts of Sugar

If you're on a diet, adding sugar is probably the worst thing you could ever do. You may perceive sugar as 'bad for diet' but what does sugar actually contain that makes it so bitter for your health?

Excessive sugar consumption leads to chronic diseases

Dr. Robert Lustig writes in his book, Fat Chance: Beating The Odds Against Sugar, Processed Food, Obesity and Disease, that sugar contributes to primarily chronic diseases like cardiovascular and diabetics.

Glucose can be highly toxic

Sugar is found to be the reason behind various complications. The excessive blood sugar carried by the blood stream may cause metabolic dysfunction that prevents insulin from working properly. Dr. Lustig explains that human's body is designed to take six teaspoons of added sugar per day. However, most Americans take 22 teaspoons in a day. As the body becomes insulin resistant, it could lead to many other serious diseases which also explains how the consumption progresses to diabetes.

Sugar is bad for teeth

One of the most obvious reasons why sugar is bad would be, how it degrades your teeth health. Sugar is digestible easily for bad bacteria. This explains why tooth decays faster. Bacteria turn the sugar into plaque and it will be hard to remove once it sticks on your teeth's surface.

Sugar is as hazardous as tobacco and alcohol

Tobacco and alcohol cause an array of diseases, so does sugar. Sugar addiction can lead to thyroid failure, yeast infection, decreased mood, and many more. Yeast feeds on sugar and gets multiplied. Hence, after a hectic day, our body releases cortisol - a stress hormone that makes the yeast run wild and craves for more sugar. This affects the body's immune system and creates vicious cycle.

Thyroid failure can also cause a person to experience headache. The best solution is to amp up your body with plenty of fluid and cut back your caffeine intake. Switch to green tea and swap your canned soup with whole foods like oatmeal, brown bread or pasta.
